The Advanced Apprenticeship allows you to build upon your Level 2 (Intermediate) training and develop your cooking skills further so you can produce more complex dishes. It also helps you to improve your ability to develop menus and control resources. This qualification is designed for people already using advanced craft skills in a working environment. You will train both in the workplace and at Yeovil College, completing practical qualifications, a technical certificate and, if required, Functional Skills qualifications.
There are a variety of trips during this course, including visits to local trade shows, food producers and the Hotel Olympia.
At Advanced level, you need to have Level 1 Functional Skills qualifications in English and Maths or equivalent, and a Level 2 Professional Cookery qualification. You need to be working in a food preparation and cooking environment or have an offer to work in such an environment before the start of your course.
You are encouraged to but a relevant, recommended textbook. A uniform, including safety shoes, is normally be provided by your Employer. Over time you may wish to purchase your own knife set.
On completion of this Advanced Apprenticeship, you could progress to a Higher Apprenticeship linked with a Foundation degree in Culinary Arts or another relevant Level 4 qualification.
