This Apprenticeship is designed for people working in a kitchen environment. It aims to help you develop the important skills and knowledge needed to make an effective contribution to a professional kitchen and lay the foundations for a successful career in Professional Cookery. You will explore key, work-relevant areas, including food preparation and cookery, food hygiene and kitchen safety.
There are a variety of trips during this course, including visits to local trade shows, food producers and the Hotel Olympia.
You need a good level of English and Maths, ideally shown by GCSE English and Maths at grade C. You also need to be working in food preparation or cookery role for the duration of the Apprenticeship. If you are not already in post, you need to have an offer of a suitable position before the start of your course.
You are encouraged to buy a recommended textbook. A uniform, including safety shoes, is normally provided by your employer.
This course qualifies you to work in a professional kitchen at a junior level. If you would like to progress to a more senior, supervisory or specialist role, you can take additional training courses. When you successful complete this Intermediate Apprenticeship, you can apply for a Level 3 qualification, such as the Advanced Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery or the Diploma (Level 3) Hospitality Supervision & Leadership.
