This Apprenticeship is designed for those looking to pursue a career in exercise and fitness instruction. It will cover the theoretical aspects to plan and deliver a range of fitness-based programmes. There will also be the opportunity to enhance your coaching and leadership ability.
Typical roles may include: Fitness Instructor / Gym Instructor; Recreation Assistant; Exercise Instructors e.g.: Aerobics, Step Aerobics, Circuit Training, Aqua aerobics, Working with children; Leisure Centre Assistant
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Instructing Exercise and Fitness (competency qualification)
Units to be taken include:
Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (knowledge qualification)
6 Units will be taken:
Anatomy and Physiology for exercise; Know how to support clients who take part in exercise and physical activity; Health safety and welfare in a fitness environment; Principals of exercise fitness and health; Planning gym based exercise; Instructing gym based exercise.
These qualifications cover the transferable and functional skills that all employees need to carry out their roles effectively. All learners will need to complete, if not already achieved; English and Mathematics Level 1. They will then need to continue studying, if not already achieved, L2.
Awareness in Employment Awareness in Active Learning and Leisure
Students may visit the college one day per week to work towards gaining detailed underpinning knowledge of the chosen subject area
A combination of observations, assessments, workbooks and portfolio evidence gathering.
Learners could move onto an Advanced Apprenticeship in Personal Training or a Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Fitness at Yeovil College University Centre. Employment within the sector
Employed within a job role which covers all areas of the qualification. GCSE in English and Maths graded A-E. Initial Assessment.
