This course is offered to individuals new to or already working in a school or similar environment who wish to study through work based learning. Activity Leaders prepare, lead, conclude and review appropriate activity sessions in a safe, engaging and inclusive manner for a range of participants. Other duties could include areas such as basic equipment maintenance and care.
The course places great emphasis on practical ability backed up with an understanding of the principals involved. The Apprenticeship offers high quality training, to meet government standards. The qualifications are designed by the industry for employers and this ensures that the training received will equip candidates with the required skills.
Whilst at work, candidates will receive comprehensive practical training designed to develop competence in carrying out relevant tasks that the employer will value. Students will be visited regularly by a qualified assessor to check on progression and to ensure that they are building evidence towards their final qualification.
Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership (competency qualification)

Leadership skills for a sports leader; Adapting sport/activity sessions to be inclusive; Safeguarding sport/activity participants; Establish and maintain safe community sport/activity sessions; Plan, lead and evaluate community sport/activity sessions; Assist in organising and leading a sports event; Lead sessions that develop fitness; Pathways in community sport and recreation
These qualifications cover the transferable and functional skills that all employees need to carry out their roles effectively. All learners will need to complete, if not already achieved; English and Mathematics Level 1. They will then need to continue studying, if not already achieved, L2
Awareness in Employment Awareness in Active Learning and Leisure
Students may visit the college one day per week to work towards gaining detailed underpinning knowledge of the chosen subject area.
A combination of observations, assessments, workbooks and portfolio evidence gathering.
Learners could move onto an Advanced Apprenticeship or Teaching assistant role.
Employed within a job role which covers all areas of the qualification. GCSE in English and Maths graded A-E. Initial Assessment.
