Entry Requirements

Level 2 - You will need four GCSEs at grade 3 (D) or above, including 4 (C) or above in English or maths.


Level 3 - You will need five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including 4 (C) or above English and maths.



Duration of this Course

One Year - Certificate

One Year - Diploma (after successfully completing Certificate)



Career Prospects

You can progress to a Foundation Degree or Honours degree in Early Years Sector at university.



How will I be assessed?

You will complete assignments, most of which are set internally and marked internally. One assignment on the Certificate and the Diploma is externally set and externally marked. Work experience is also assessed, through a practice portfolio and observations.



Course Content/Units

Mandatory Units

You will complete a range of different modules, themed into the following four topics:


  • Health & Well-being, including supporting healthy lifestyles and physical care routines.

  • Legislation, Frameworks and Professional Practice, including legislation to support practice, safeguarding and welfare of children and equality and diversity in practice.

  • Play Development & Learning for School Readiness, including all aspects of play, how children learn through play and the role of observation and assessment when planning to meet children’s needs.

  • Engage in Professional Practice, linked to practical work experience.
