Introduction to this course

You will explore how authors write creatively and how to improve your own creative writing. You will also look into how writers have particular view points and perspectives on issues and themes and see how they use their writing to influence our thoughts and feelings.

Advice and Guidance Required before Enrolment

Entry Requirements

We would like you to have either an existing D grade at GCSE English Language or a Level 1 or Level 2 equivalent such as Functional Skills English, but don’t worry if you don’t. Entry on to the study programme is via an assessment evening where we assess your current level of English and offer you advice and guidance as to what is the best next step for you.

Duration of this course

This course is approximately 37 weeks (starting September and ending in May).

Career Prospects

This qualification is now considered essential by many employers.  If you achieve grade B or above you can also consider continuing your studies with A Level English Language or English Literature.

How will I be assessed?

Through controlled tests and examinations.

The course consists of the following units: Written Papers Unit 1 - English in the Daily World (Reading) Unit 2 - English in the Daily World (Writing) Controlled Assessments Unit 3 - English in the World of the Imagination Unit 4 - Speaking and Listening
