This study programme is based on the occupational standards developed by the Sport and Fitness industry, so is ideal for people who want a career in this sector. Particularly suitable for those who know which part of the sector they would like to join, you will also have the opportunity to complete a Leadership award alongside the Subsidiary Diploma.
Learners will have the opportunity to go on various trips including visits to a Sports industry fair, sports events, Bath Rugby Club, Wimbledon, careers conventions and universities. You will complete a two week work placement and participate in a range of events as a coach and official event organiser to hone your work-related skills.

You need four GCSEs at grade A* - C, including English, or Merit for a relevant Level 2 qualification.
This study programme is the equivalent of 2 or 3 A Levels. When you successfully gain this qualification, you can apply for higher level study programmes such as the FdA in Sports coaching & fitness at Yeovil College University Centre. Alternatively, you can also progress to a relevant Apprenticeship.
Assessment is through a range of written assignments, presentations, practical demonstrations, controlled tests and multiple choice questions.

To gain the full qualification, you must also complete three additional units:
Sports kit/coaching kit, including rain jacket, sweatshirt,tracksuit trousers, training shirt, polo shirt, socks, and gym membership and enrichment activities – Approximately £150. There is a fee for the First Aid Certificate.

There is an expectation that all learners will wear their kit when representing the college in fixtures (home and away) and when taking part in physical activity sessions (as a participant, official or coach). Second year learners do not need to purchase new kit.
