Introduction to this course

This course replaces the Diploma (Level 5) Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.


The City & Guilds Diploma (Level 5) Education & Training will help you develop an analytical and practical approach to all aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Additionally, it will help you will cement your knowledge of theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in practice. It is a higher level teaching qualification designed for those who are or want to be ‘in service’, working as teachers or trainers in England. It may also be possible for pre-service teachers/trainers, i.e. people not formally contracted as a teacher/trainer, to take this qualification. All applicants need access to 100 hours teaching practice.

Entry Requirements

You need Level 2 qualifications, such as a GCSEs, in English and Maths. A Degree or equivalent. You also need access to 100 teaching hours.



Duration of this Course

This is a one year, part-time course.


Wednesdays between 5pm to 8:30pm starting on 02/10/2017



Career Prospects

The qualification allows candidates to progress into specialist units within the initial teacher training suite of qualifications.



How will I be assessed?

Your knowledge and progress will be assessed through written assignments, a Teaching Practice portfolio and your 100 hours teaching practice. You will also be assessed through eight graded teaching observations, at least four of which must be graded good or above and linked to specific units.

    Course Fees 2017/18: £2,762 including certification and registration with awarding body.


    This is a maximum course cost. Please note that fees vary depending upon your personal circumstances and government funding. Additional membership and exam fees may also apply.
