Yeovil College welcomes Department for Education Deputy Director to showcase major developments

Yeovil College welcomed Michael Nicol, Deputy Director for the South West at the Department for Education, to campus to see the major developments taking place across the College and hear more about its work with employers and young people.

The visit followed a recommendation from the Department for Education regional team, with Yeovil College identified as a college of interest because of the scale of activity taking place, particularly around its Big Build campus transformation and DTEC developments.

During his visit, Michael heard about progress across the College, including plans for DTEC, Yeovil College’s work with major employers such as Leonardo and Thales, and the support and practical opportunities available for young people who are not in education, employment or training.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss how the College is responding to skills needs locally and the role further education can play in supporting employers and creating opportunities for young people.

Mark Bolton, Principal & CEO of Yeovil College, said:

“We were really pleased to welcome Michael to Yeovil College and to share some of the significant work taking place here.

“There is an enormous amount happening at the College, from the transformation of our campus through the Big Build to our growing work with employers and the development of specialist skills provision.

“Visits like this are important because they give us the opportunity to show what further education looks like on the ground, the difference it makes to young people and employers, and the scale of our ambition for Yeovil and the wider region.”
