Skills Bootcamps are nationally recognised, short, intense training programmes lasting up to 16 weeks, designed for adults 19+. They are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and Plan for Jobs initiative and aim to help individuals gain valuable skills in various sectors.
Yeovil College’s Skills Bootcamps are flexible, government-funded training programmes designed to help adults and employers gain the skills needed for today’s workforce.

Under current regulatory guidance, every engineer carrying out an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) should personally hold an approved Level 3 Inspection and Testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391 or EAL 603/2625/6, together with a minimum of two years verified practical experience.
This Skills Bootcamp helps electricians develop the knowledge, competence and recognised qualification needed to meet industry expectations, support compliance requirements and enhance career opportunities.
Employer Funding
Skills Bootcamps are heavily funded through Government investment, making workforce development more affordable and accessible for employers and individuals.
Employer Referred Learners
- Small employers contribute just 10%
- Large employers contribute 30%
- Unemployed learners are fully funded
Self-Employed Learners
- Sole Traders: Fully funded, subject to eligibility criteria
- Limited Company Directors: Eligible through the employer contribution model with a 10% employer contribution required

Skills Bootcamps are short, intensive courses lasting up to 16 weeks, delivered face to face.
Alongside the core training, participants will benefit from one-on-one support provided by our specialist careers team to support with career progression. If applicable, the Skills Bootcamp concludes with career-matching activities to connect participants with relevant opportunities.
Attendance is crucial to fully benefit from the training, as the Skills Bootcamps are short and intensive. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend every session to make the most of the Skills Bootcamp.
Our Skills Bootcamps are suitable for anybody wanting to:
- Upskill in their current job using the skills developed within the Bootcamp, with the support of their employer.
- Upskill those who are unemployed, but who want to gain a deeper understanding of the sector for a future role in this area and looking to move into employment within the chosen sector.
- Upskill existing knowledge for a career change or to gain employment in the chosen industry sector.
- Learn new methods of operation to grow your business.
To apply you will need to meet the following criteria:
- You are 19 years or over.
- You must live or work in Somerset or Dorset.
- You have the right to work in the UK.
- You have lived in the UK or EU/EAA for the last 3 years or have a residency status that makes you exempt from this rule.
- You have not completed another Skills Bootcamp in this current financial year.
- If you are unemployed you are committed to actively seek employment independently and provide evidence of a job interview and job offer within your subject area.
- If you are employed, your employer will be asked to pay a contribution.
- If you are self-employed you are committed to building your business and provide evidence of a business plan that reflects the knowledge and skills, you have acquired and evidence of engagement with new clients.
- You are committed to participating in delivery sessions – 1 day per week for up to 16 weeks (duration depends on the Skills Bootcamp you are studying)
- A minimum of a level 2 qualification in English and Math
- In addition, some of our Skills Bootcamps will have specific eligibility criteria, please read the criteria on the individual Skills Bootcamp course information pages.
If you are an individual attending the Skills Bootcamp and are unemployed, self-employed or in employment then the Skills Bootcamp is fully funded and free to you IF you meet the eligibility criteria.
If you are an employer who wishes to refer your employees to a Skills Bootcamp to upskill and support them with career progression opportunities using the skills developed, then you will receive a discount ranging from 70% – 90%, depending on the size of the company.
Following your application/interest/enquiry to study a Skills Bootcamp, you will be asked to complete an online enrolment form.
If you are a non-UK resident you will be asked to provide evidence of residency.
Skills Bootcamps are jointly designed and delivered by our delivery specialists and employer partners, so you can be confident you are learning and developing the relevant skills important to employers.
Throughout the Skills Bootcamp, and in addition to the core delivery, you will take part in employability sessions and have the opportunity to have one to one sessions to support you with preparing for, job application completion, interviews and recruitment events with our industry partners, giving you the opportunity to network and connect with employers looking for these skills.
Yeovil College works closely with Industry around the South West and will provide employment opportunities through our partners and from Job Searches.
