Course Overview

This qualification is designed for people aged 19 or older who are considering developing in-depth knowledge of the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work and the approaches that underpin the use of these skills.

You will learn what it takes to become a great counsellor, explore the theory that underpins the work done by counsellors, and understand how to develop a relationship with a client based on mutual trust and understanding. You will also develop the key skills required in a wide range of roles and careers such as health and care support, teaching, nursing, management and others. This course will take place at Yeovil College, and will be delivered over one night per week for the whole academic year.

NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills.

After The Course

This qualification serves as a progression route for further study. Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to our Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice and would be welcome to discuss your options with your tutor and you would be welcome to discuss your options with your tutor.

This qualification does not qualify you to practice as a counsellor. However, it can support your progression within employment in a number of roles including: clinical healthcare support worker, mental health support worker, health education/health promotion worker and others.

What Will I Learn

You will gain an understanding of a range of counselling skills and have the opportunity to examine some of the various schools of thought/theoretical models associated with them.
This qualification has five mandatory units:

  • Developing Counselling Skills
  • Theoretical Approaches in the Use of Counselling Skills
  • Working Ethically with Counselling Skills
  • Counselling Skills and Diversity
  • Counselling Skills and Personal Development

Our Lecturers

The course is taught by a well qualified and experienced lecturer who is dedicated to ensuring student success through effective curriculum delivery and high-quality student support. This course is led by a counselling professional with significant experience.

Teaching Learning and Assessment

Teaching and learning is designed to support all learners to achieve. There are a mixture of practical and theory-based sessions and you will have the opportunity to put the theory you learn into practice during role plays and skills practice with peers and other counselling learners.

This course is assessed by a number of different methods including essays, reflective learning journals, practical role plays, reflective discussions, group work and presentations.

As an adult learner at Yeovil College you will be able to access a range of support and services, including our dedicated Learning Resource Centre, a wealth of resources from our team of expert careers advisors, and a range of wellbeing support.

Tutorials

You will be offered 1-2-1 tutorials with your tutor to support your learning.

Course Expenses

Our course fee is £2225.

How Will I Be Assessed

This course is assessed by a number of different methods including essays, reflective learning journals, practical role plays and observation records, reflective discussions, group work and presentations.

Entry Requirements

This course is open to applicants who hold a Level 2 qualification in Counselling Skills, or equivalent. In addition, the course requires a good level of written English, so we ask for applicants to hold either a GCSE in English at grade C / 4, or an equivalent (e.g. Functional Skills Level 2).

If you don't yet hold a Level 2 Counselling qualification, you may wish to consider the Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills we offer, before embarking upon the Level 3 course.
